There’s been a lot going on with the UK Grime movement for some time now and it’s starting to color outside the lines. It’s reached our shores here in the U.S. and it’s gotten the attention of some very influential MCs! Not too many though, but it’s beginning. Not exactly favored by all and extremely controversial given the fact that it’s based from the U.K. We here at Formula Noise think it is an essential part of evolution.
Music has always been a very touchy subject when it comes to “Who Owns it?” The thing that you can’t ignore is that any type of music evolved from another. There’s no question about that. So it almost blurs the lines as to individuality to a bit of a degree. Genres will still maintain their independence, but for most, the Genre War is a bit exhausting and annoying the deeper it goes.
With the U.K. taking the U.S. Hip Hop culture and tweaking it to their own sound by MCing over Drum and Bass years ago, they eventually birthed Grime music. Thanks to Grime artists like Skepta, Jme, Kano, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle, Ghetts, Wiley, Giggs and countless others, it has influenced these artists here state side.
One of the Founders of American Grime. This guy makes moves! He’s all over the place. Documentaries in the Grime homeland of the U.K. and all over the internet. Playing big shows with big names in all types of festivals all over the country. MCing on Dubstep, Trap, Drum and Bass and of course… Grime! He’s more natural behind a microphone then in any other setting and off the mic, we think he’s a pretty cool guy. Keep your eyes(or ears) on this guy!
A member of the UK Garage Social up in Baltimore. These guys throw it down up on the upper East Coast! They’re steadily bringing talent from all over the globe to their gatherings and MC Twisty plays a big role. Shaking hands with some the biggest leaders in the Grime movement. Can’t wait to hear more of this guy and we are pretty sure we will. Blocckaa!
From Killeen Texas hails to be what you may feel as the Tupac of American Grime. Hitting you with conscious bars that make you wanna rethink your life. In a good way though! Coming from Jamaican decent, he would make his revolutionary ancestors proud. He must be hiding out in this little town in Texas because he would set the world on fire too fast walking around in any major city. It’s almost as if the rest of the world ain’t ready for him, but he’s probably what the world needs more of! Respect!
Proof that White Boys CAN jump! Well, at least make you want to. This artist’s music has that “Get you up off your feet” type of sound. Definitely keeps the bars flowing and your mind going. When you hear his tunes it’s like you’re in a blow up jump house at your friend’s birthday party. We hear strong flavors of Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and a dash of just about anything twisting around inside this guy’s music. Keep us in the whirlwind yo!
Syllables, Syllables, Syllables!!! Another California Boy tearing shit up for the American Grime movement. His double time bars are absolutely bonkers. Mass amounts of style and taste. This dude’s energy is serious business. Warning: These tunes might pop a blood vessel or two in your forehead. Where does all this man’s energy coming from? Keep fucking drinking, eating or breathing it, whatever it is. We want more over here at Formula Noise. We’ll be watching, or rather, listening.
