Genre Wars! As much as I hate to negatively impact the progress of electronic music, I do have to touch base on how important it is to know our history in all matters of life. In this case I need to address House Music and the new craze of “Bass Injected” House Music.
There is a particular type of Genre creating going around in EDM where knowledge of Electronic Music’s past is not being credited, recognized or basically studied by new producers and DJs. Take “Deep House” for instance. The whole argument is based around what “Deep House” used to sound like and how it pretty much evolved into absolutely nothing of what it used to sound like. In fact, it sounds more like the old “UK Garage” sound than anything. Let’s use these following tunes for reference. I will start with the newer style of track in question and move to other key points. Pay attention closely.
Here is an example of what “Deep House” today is.
Now here is an example of what “Deep House” used to sound like back in the 90’s and early 00’s.

I really don’t think I need to explain the similarities and differences here. Anyone can tell how mixed up the genre game is from just those three examples. I do think that the music is what it’s all about first and foremost, but you wouldn’t go making Chinese food and calling it Italian. Tell me that doesn’t make at least some bit of sense.
